==Síntesis biográfica==
Walton nació el 18 de febrero de 1949 como Mary Jesse Walton en Grand Rapids, Michigan, EE. UU, pero se crió en Toronto, Canadá, donde asistió a la escuela secundaria católica Loretto Abbey. Ella dejó su hogar a la edad de 17 años y se unió a una compañía de teatro de Toronto. En 1969, se mudó a Hollywood y en el próximo año firmó con Universal Studios. Casada con [[John W James]], una reconocida autoridad de recuperación de la pena y coautor del best seller The Grief Recovery Handbook. Tienen 2 hijos.
==Carrera==
En la década de 1970, Walton fue invitada en una serie de programas de televisión, como el Centro Médico. Ella co-protagonizó la película [[The Strawberry Statement]] (1970), y retrató los papeles principales femeninos de The Peace Killers (1971) y [[Monkeys in the Attic]] (1974). También apareció en [[The Hunted Lady]] (1977) protagonizada por [[Donna Mills]]. Durante ese tiempo, su vida social también se calentó y se casó brevemente con el actor Bruce Davison de 1972–73; el matrimonio fue anulado dentro del año. Sin embargo, su vida comenzó a salirse de control cuando recurrió al alcohol y las drogas. En 1980, luchó contra su adicción y completó la rehabilitación. En 1984, Walton volvió a actuar con el papel de Kelly Harper en la telenovela diurna CBS, [[Capitol]]. El show fue cancelado en 1987. Más tarde en ese año, Walton se unió al elenco de otra telenovela de CBS, The Young and the Restless, en el papel de Jill Foster Abbott. El papel fue originalmente interpretado por Brenda Dickson, quien partió en 1980, y el papel fue reformulado por primera vez con Deborah Adair. En 1983, Dickson regresó al papel, y aunque dijo que nunca se iría, fue reemplazada por Walton en 1987. Walton ganó un Daytime Emmy Award en 1997 por Actriz Principal en una Serie de Drama por su interpretación de Jill, y fue nominada en 1996 y 2000.
