Nacido el 15 de diciembre de 1933 en los suburbios de Filadelfia, cuando estudiaba en la [[escuela]] secundaria conoció a [[Richard Levinson]], destinado a convertirse en su colaborador durante muchos años. Ambos comenzaron escribiendo cuentos y guiones de [[radio]].<br />

En televisión, William Link y Levinson fueron reclutados para escribir libretos de [[Alfred Hitchcock]] presenta y otras series de éxito. Juntos crearon [[Colombo]], que en [[1971]] se convirtió en uno de los personajes más conocidos de la [[televisión]] de todos los tiempos. Ambos le dieron la dirección del primer capítulo a un joven desconocido, [[Steven Spielberg]], destinado a triunfar.<br />

"La [[naturaleza]] verdaderamente buena de Bill siempre me inspiró a hacer un buen [[trabajo]] para un [[hombre]] que, junto con [[Dick Levinson]], fue parte de mi particular escuela de [[cine]]", ha declarado Spielberg en un comunicado. "Bill era uno de mis maestros favoritos y más pacientes y, más que nada, aprendí mucho de él sobre la verdadera [[anatomía]] de una trama.
