	EcuRed nace de la voluntad de crear y difundir el conocimiento con todos y para todos; desde Cuba y con el mundo. Su nombre recupera varios significados que remiten, en primer lugar, a la Ecúmene, antes parte habitada de la tierra, y hoy conjunto del mundo y culturas conocidas.
