Síntesis biografica
De descendencia italiana, Anthony Dominick Benedetto, nacio en Astoria, un barrio del distrito de Queens, en Nueva York, el 3 de agosto de 1926.
Comenzó a cantar en el colegio y en el ejército formó parte de varias bandas. En 1944 fue alistado para combatir en Alemania durante la II Guerra Mundial con la 63ª división de infantería, y tomo parte en la liberación del campo de concentración de Landsberg.
Bob Hope lo lanza en 1950 tras sugerirle que cambiase de nombre, Anthony Benedetto pasó entonces a llamarse Tony Bennett. En ese mismo año logró un contrato con CBS, en la que conoce a Percy Faith, que desde entonces será su productor musical, consiguiendo hasta el 57 éxitos en el top 10, entre ellos Because of you y Cold, cold heart, en el 51 y Rags to riches y Stranger in Paradise en el 53.
En 1962, obtuvo sus primeros dos Premios Grammy en las categorías Grabación del Año y Mejor Interpretación Vocal Masculina como Solista con el tema I Left My Heart in San Francisco. En los setentas y ochentas, colaboró con figuras del jazz, como Jimmy McPartland, Bill Evans, George Benson, Dizzy Gillespie y Dexter Gordon.
En 1995 le otorgaron otro Grammy, sumando 15 en total más dos premios Emmy.
