The Atlanta Rhythm Section (ARS). Grupo estadounidense de música rock, han sido parte de la escena del Southern Rock durante más de 30 años Entre sus canciones más escuchadas se encuentran “So Into You”, “Champagne Jam”, “Imaginary Lover”, y “Spooky”. Con 15 álbumes de canciones y actuaciones excepcionales, representa todo lo bueno que la frase "rock clásico" implica.

Trayectoria musical

Su primer disco, Atlanta Rhythm Section (1972), fue un fracaso, tras el cual abandonó el grupo el cantante, siendo sustituido por Ronnie "Ron" Hammond, ingeniero de grabación y multinstrumentista. Con él, la banda inició un largo periplo de grabaciones y actuaciones, logrando un sólido prestigio aunque un escaso éxito con los LP’s Back up against the wall (1974), Tirad annual pipe dream (1975), Dog days (1976) y Red tape (1976).

En 1976, los años de profesionalidad cuajaron en el LP A rock and roll alternative, que fue claro éxito, lo mismo que el single So into you, que fue top-10 en Estados Unidos. A partir de ahí, la carrera de la ARS entró en una etapa de decidida continuidad, con Champagnejam (1978), LP que contiene los hits Imaginary lover y l’m not gonna let it bother me tonight; el LP Underdog (1979), con temas Do it or die y Spooky; el doble álbum en vivo Are you ready! (1979), y en 1980 el álbum The boys from Doraville, en el cual Roy Yeager es el nuevo batería reemplazando a Nix.

En 1981 dejaron el sello Polydor, al que pertenecían desde su tercer LP, grabando para CBS su álbum Quinella (1981), que los mantiene dentro de los buenos grupos profesionales del rock. En 1982 prepararon un nuevo álbum, pero CBS se negó lanzarlo después de estar terminado por diferencias surgidas. A finales de este año Ron abandonó el grupo y regresó el vocalista original Rodney Justo.

En 1983 trataron de grabar un nuevo álbum sin resultado y Paul Goddard también se fue para formar una nueva banda de nombre Interpol que no tuvo éxito. Los años siguientes y sin contrato de grabación los pasaron en blanco dedicándose en exclusiva dar conciertos y hacer tours con numerosos cambios en sus formaciones. Las ideas y venidas de algunos de sus componentes originales fueron continúas. En 1988 Hammond, Bailey y Daughtry se reunieron junto a otros músicos para grabar el álbum Truth in a structured form publicado en 1989. Las ventas no fueron nada buenas y siguieron con su giras hasta 1996 en que grabaron una colección de sus canciones más conocidas de una forma diferente y aprovechando registros de actuaciones en conciertos. El álbum se tituló Atlanta Rhythm Section'96.

ARS (abreviatura del nombre de la banda compuesta por sus iniciales), han seguido publicando discos (sin mucha trascendencia) y realizando conciertos hasta las fechas actuales, manteniendo en su formación a Rodney Justo, Dean Daughtry y Paul Goddard. ATS.jpg
