Betty Compson. Fue una versátil estrella del cine mudo y más tarde un artista de carácter en películas habladas. Su verdadero nombre era Eleanor Luicime Compson. Ella recibió una nominación al Oscar a la mejor actriz por "The Barker" (1928).
Síntesis biográfica
Nació el 19 de marzo de 1897, en los Estados Unidos de América. La hija de un ingeniero de minas, la rubia de ojos azules, Betty Compson se inició en el mundo del espectáculo tocando el violín en un establecimiento de Salt Lake City . Después de eso, ella se fue de gira, acompañada por su madre, con un acto llamado el violinista vagabundo. De dieciocho años, ella apareció en Alexander Pantages Theatre Circuit .
Carrera artística
Ella rompió en el cine en 1915 y le sirvió de aprendizaje en comedias, westerns, y series. El melodrama "El hombre de los milagros" (1919), en la que co-protagonizó junto a Lon Chaney, la estableció como una de las damas reina de Hollywood, cargo que ocupó a lo largo de la década de 1920. En 1919, Betty fue firmado por el escritor / director George Loane Tucker para co-protagonizar junto a Lon Chaney como Rose en El hombre de los milagros (1919). La película fue un gran éxito crítico y financiero y ha establecido a Betty Compson como una gran estrella de la Paramount (bajo contrato 1921 a 1925). En 1920, comenzó a la cabeza de su propia empresa. Trabajó en el estudio Brunton, en Hollywood, y adquirió tres guiones para sus proyectos. Su primera película como productora fue Prisoners of Love (1921), en la cual hacía el papel de Blanche Davis. La obra fue dirigida por Art Rosson. Durante finales de 1920, Betty apareció en una variedad de papeles dramáticos y cómicos. Recibió buenas críticas de actuación frente a George Bancroft 'como una prostituta frente al mar en Los muelles de Nueva York (1928), y fue nominada a la Academia Premio por su retrato de una niña de carnaval en el Barker (1928). Ella dio un rendimiento de tocar en The Great Gabbo (1929), dirigida por su entonces esposo James Cruze , como asistente de un ventrílocuo loco ( Erich von Stroheim ), con quien es infeliz en el amor. Compson se casó en tres ocasiones. Entre 1924 y 1930 estuvo casada con el director James Cruze. Posteriormente se casó y se divorció de Irving Weinberg. Su tercer marido fue Silvius Jack Gall, que falleció en 1962.
