Sobre Acker Bilk

Hijo de un predicador metodista y de una organista, Bilk aprende a tocar el clarinete en 1947, mientras cumple una condena de 3 meses en Egipto, donde servía en el ejército.

En 1958 formó la Paramount Jazz Band y en 1960 consigue su primer éxito con Summer set. En 1961, un tema de su LP Sentimental journey, titulado en principio "Jenny", fue adaptado para la serie infantil de TV "Stranger on the shore". Reeditado con este título, alcanzó el número uno en Inglaterra y Estados Unidos entre ese año y 1962, vendiendo 4 millones de copias en 1967, año en que la R.I.A.A. certificó su disco de oro.

Siendo considerado como «mejor instrumentista» de 1962, Bilk ya no volvió a conseguir nuevos éxitos de importancia, y sólo en 1976 fue número cinco en Gran Bretaña con Aria.

Acker Bilk estuvo activo mientras sus facultades se lo permitieron , compartiendo escenario, en ocasiones, con otros grandes músicos ingleses como Chris Barber (trombón) y Kenny Ball (trompeta) con los que realizó algunas grabaciones como el álbum The ultimate Chris Barber, Kenny Ball & Acker Bilk (98).
