Paul Carpenter Standley (1884 en Ávalon, Missouri - 2 de junio de 1963 en Tegucigalpa, Honduras) fue un botánico y pteridólogo estadounidense.

La abreviatura Standl. se emplea para indicar a Paul Carpenter Standley como autoridad en la descripción y clasificación científica de las plantas.

Biografía

Standley nació en Avalon, Missouri. Asistió Drury Colegio en Springfield, Missouri y Colegio Estatal de Nuevo México, donde recibió una licenciatura en 1907, y recibió una maestría de la Universidad Estatal de Nuevo México en 1908. Permaneció en Colegio Estatal de Nuevo México como asistente de 1908-1909. Fue el Conservador Auxiliar de la División de Plantas en el Museo Nacional de los Estados Unidos de 1909 a 1922. En la primavera de 1928, él tomó una posición en el Museo Field de Historia Natural, donde trabajó hasta 1950. Después de su retiro en 1950, se trasladó a la Escuela Agrícola Panamericana, donde trabajó en la biblioteca y el herbario e hizo trabajo de campo hasta 1956, cuando dejó de hacer el trabajo botánico. En 1957 se trasladó a Tegucigalpa, Honduras, donde murió en la tarde del 2 de junio de 1963.

Él contribuyó a la árboles y arbustos de México, la flora de Guatemala, y la flora de Costa Rica.
