James Brian Mark Purefoy. Actor de cine y televisión inglés nacido el 3 de junio de 1964.Es ampliamente conocido por su interpretación del profesor Joe Carroll en la serie de televisión The Following.
Primeros años
James Purefoy nació el 3 de junio de 1964 en Taunton, Somerse, Inglaterra, siendo el mayor de los hijos de Shirley y Anthony. Sin una orientación profesional definida, Purefoy abandonó sus estudios secundarios para buscarse la vida en diversos países europeos durante su adolescencia. A los dieciocho años decidió estudiar interpretación y representó obras de teatro en la Central School of Speech of Drama, en especial textos de William Shakespeare.
Carrera
Ha trabajado tanto en el teatro clásico como en la televisión y el cine. Como miembro de la Royal Shakespeare Company desde 1988, ha trabajado en más de veinticuatro obras que van desde Macbeth, King Lear, The Tempest hasta Les enfants du paradis.
A comienzos de la década del 1990, Purefoy actuó en la pequeña pantalla interviniendo en telefilms y series de televisión como Rides y Tears Before Bedtimes. Más tarde intervino en una adaptación para televisión de Don Quijote (2000), dirigida por Peter Yates, en la que el actor británico interpretaba el papel de Sansón Carrasco, y encarnó a Marco Antonio en la teleserie Roma (2005). Su primera intervención cinematográfica se produjo en Angels (1992), un film británico dirigido por Philip Saville. En 2013, la serie The Following se estrenó y Purefoy interpretó al personaje principal antagonista. Él encarna el papel de Joe Carroll, un antiguo profesor que se convierte en un asesino en serie y crea y dirige una secta de seguidores, que le ayuda a crear la historia del Joe Carroll.
