Neil Jordan nació el 25 de febrero de 1950 en Sligo County, Irlanda. Es un director de cine y novelista irlandés. En 1992 obtuvo el Óscar al mejor guion original por The Crying Game.

Hijo de Angela O'Brien, pintora, y Michael Jordan, profesor.
Estudios
Fue educado en el Paul's College, Raheny, y criado como católico, siendo bastante religioso en su juventud. Asistió al University College Dublin, donde estudió la historia de Irlanda y literatura inglesa.
Escritor
Sus inicios fueron como escritor de novelas como El pasado y Una noche en Tunisia. En 1981 Neil Jordan colaboró como consultor de guion en el film Excalibur de John Boorman. En el mismo año, escribe el guion de Traveller.
Director
Neil Jordan debuta en la dirección con Angel (1982), protagonizado por Stephen Rea.
Parejas e hijos
Padre de cinco hijos: Anna y Sarah de su matrimonio con la abogada Vivienne Shields; Dashiel y Daniel de su matrimonio con Brenda Rawn y Ben, fruto de una breve relación con la arquitecta María Donohoe.
