Creció en Tustin, California, donde desarrolló su interés por la actuación desde joven. Asistió a la Foothill High School y continuó sus estudios en la Academia Americana de Artes Dramáticas en Pasadena, además de formarse en la Circle in the Square Theatre School en Nueva York.
Carrera
Inició su carrera en el mundo del cine con un pequeño papel en Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College (1991) y como presentador del programa de televisión SK8-TV. Su primera actuación destacada llegó con la comedia negra Serial Mom (1994). En 1996, interpretó a Stu Macher en la icónica película de terror Scream, consolidando su reputación en el género slasher.
Ha participado en cintas como Hackers (1995), SLC Punk! (1998), She's All That (1999), 13 Fantasmas (2001) y es mundialmente reconocido por su papel como Shaggy Rogers en las adaptaciones de acción real de Scooby-Doo (2002 y 2004), así como por su voz en las versiones animadas desde 2009.
