Síntesis biográfica
Nace en Ottumwa, Iowa, el 6 de marzo de 1959. Comenzó su carrera en la comedia en la Universidad de Iowa antes de trasladarse a Minneapolis donde ganó el Concurso de Comedia de Minneapolis en 1988. A continuación, se trasladó a Los Angeles para trabajar como guionista en la popular serie de televisión Roseanne actuando al final como productor ejecutivo de la comedia de situación. Más tarde protagonizó tres entregas de su propio especial de la HBO titulado Tom Arnold: The Naked Truth y posteriormente escribió, produjo y protagonizó tres de sus propias series de televisión The Jackie Thomas Show, Tom y The Tom Show. Entre sus restantes trabajos en cine figuran Nueve meses con Hugh Grant, Julianne Moore y Robin Williams; True Lies de James Cameron con Arnold Schwarzenegger; Héroe por accidente con Dustin Hoffman; Austin Powers con Mike Myers y en Animal Factory, dirigida por Steve Buscemi recibió excelentes críticas por su interpretación de un convicto. Ha creado una beca para guionistas y dirige un taller activo para estudiantes en el Indian Hills Community College de Iowa. También participa activamente en el San Diego Center For Children que se ocupa de niños maltratados y abandonados así como en The Race to Erase MS, The Kayne-Eras Center y el albergue infantil Hollygrove. Se ha hecho famoso entre los espectadores de cine y televisión de todo el mundo habiendo recibido premios como el Peabody Award como guionista y un Globo de Oro como guionista y productor.
