Axel Rudi Pell es una banda de rock de Alemania, la cual toma su nombre del guitarrista de reconocimiento internacional del mismo nombre, quien es a su vez el líder de la misma..
Sumario
Historia de la banda
Axel Rudi Pell, el hechicero alemán de la guitarra, ha sido parte permanente de la escena metalera germana desde el lanzamiento del primer album de su banda Steeler en 1984. Tres albumes más le sucedieron, Ruling the earth del 1985, Strike back en el 1986 y el final Undercover animal de 1988, hasta que Axel decidió dejar la banda para comenzar una carrera solista en 1989.
Si Steeler había sido una banda popular a mediados de los ’80, el nuevo proyecto de Axel lo sería mucho más con la publicación del primer album Wild obsession, el que contaba con los talentos de Charlie Huhn (ex Gary Moore, Victory) en voces, el conocido baterista Jörg Michael (hoy en Stratovarius), el bajista Volker Krawczak (quien tocaba con Axel en Steeler) y el tecladista Ferdy Doerberg (quien también tiene su propia banda llamada Rough Silk).
Luego de este fantástico disco de hard rock, la banda grabó Nasty reputation con el vocalista americano Rob Rock (también conocido por ser el cantante de Impellitteri), y la popularidad siguió en aumento. Los albumes siguientes Eternal prisoner (1992), Between the walls (1994), Black moon pyramid (1996) y Magic (1997) fueron grabados con Jeff Scott Soto en las voces (conocido por haber sido el cantante de Yngwie Malmsteen), fueron definiendo y unificando el “sonido” de la banda de Axel, patentando un estilo característico compuesto por pasajes de rápido y melódico hard rock, con influencias neoclásicas y un toque emotivo y sentimental, que combina lo mejor de Rainbow y Deep Purple, con el sello personal de Axel, creando un estilo de música claro y distintivo.
En 1998, la banda sufriría 2 nuevos cambios en la formación. El baterista Jörg Michael se uniría en forma exclusiva a Stratovarious, siendo reemplazado por el baterista afamado norteamericano Mike Terrana quien había tocada con guitarristas de la talla de Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony Macalpine y Roland Grapow. Por su parte, Jeff Scott Soto dejó la banda y fue reemplazado por un extraordinario cantante proveniente también de norteamerica: Johnny Gioeli quien cantaba en la banda Hardline junto a Neal Schön y Deen Castronovo, guitarrista y baterista de Journey respectivamente. Así la banda quedo compuesta por tres alemanes y dos americanos. Con este line-up la banda ha editado 3 de sus mejores trabajos: Oceans of time de 1998, The Masquerade ball del 2000 y el reciente Shadow zone del 2002, alcanzado altos niveles de popularidad y ventas, superando todo lo hecho anteriormente y girando profusamente por toda Europa y Japón. Dos shows de la reciente gira europea fueron grabados para editarlos como un doble CD y DVD y serán lanzados mundialmente durante el mes de octubre.
