Biografía
Infancia y juventud
Nació el 22 de noviembre de 1961 en Mill Valley, California. Se crió en Ketchum, Idaho, donde vivía su padre. También pasó parte de su adolescencia en Los Ángeles y en Nueva York.
Hija de Byra Louise Whittlesey, y de Jack Hemingway, escritor. Tuvo dos hermanas: Joan Hemingway (1950) y Margaux Hemingway (1954-1996), que se convirtió en actriz y modelo, muriendo tras una sobredosis de barbitúricos a los 42 años. Nieta del célebre escritor Ernest Hemingway.
Inicio de su carrera
Inició su carrera como modelo. Su primer papel para el cine lo interpretó junto a su hermana Margaux en la película Lipstick (1976). Por su trabajo en su segunda película fue nominada al Oscar como Mejor Actriz Secundaria por su interpretación de Tracy, en Manhattan, de Woody Allen. Encarnó a orothy Stratten, la protagonista de Star 80, un film de Bob Fosse, por el que consiguió muy buenas críticas.
Dirección de película
Dirigió su primera película, basada en una novela de su abuelo titulada A Moveable Fest. El libro narra la historia de amor vivida por Ernest y Hadley, la primera de sus cuatro esposas. Trabajó como presentadora del programa Turner Broadcasting Documentary para televisión.
Curiosidad
En la serie televisiva "Roseanne" se produjo un controversial beso entre la estrella del programa y la actriz Mariel Hemingway, provocando airadas protestas de grupos religiosos conservadores.
Vida matrimonial
Contrajo matrimonio el 9 de diciembre de 1984 con el escritor y director Stephen Crisman; se divorciaron en 2008. Madre de dos hijos: Dree Louise Hemingway nacida en 1987 y Langley nacido en 1989. Desde principios de 2011, se relaciona con el ex doble de acción Bobby Williams, con quien escribió libros de autoayuda.
