Síntesis biográfica
Nació el 25 de mayo de 1908 en Saginaw.
Obra
Su lírica se caracteriza por la utilización de imágenes de la infancia y de la naturaleza, especialmente de las plantas.Frecuentemente describe situaciones grotescas e incluso surrealistas como si formaran parte de la vida cotidiana.
Autor de libros como Casa abierta (1941), El hijo perdido y otros poemas (1948) y El despertar (Premio Pulitzer de 1953). Existo, dice el cordero (1961) incluye poemas para niños.
Sus últimas poesías se publicaron póstumamente en El campo lejano (1964).
Muerte
Theodore Roethke falleció el 1 de agosto de 1963 en Bainbridge Island.
