Historia

La historia de Iron Maiden se remonta a 1975, cuando Steve Harris, bajista de apenas 19 años, tras haber pasado por varios grupos, decide crear su propia banda. Para ello recluta entre la gente de su barrio de Londres a varios jóvenes músicos con ganas de tocar. Tras varias pruebas y ajustes, la primera formación de Iron Maiden estuvo compuesta por el propio Steve Harris en el bajo, Dave Murray y Bob Sawyer en las guitarras, Doug Sampson en la batería y Paul Di'Anno como vocalista.

Inicios

Por aquella época, Iron Maiden solía tocar en pequeños locales del East End londinense. Tocaban casi gratis y se desplazaban con una vieja furgoneta. Hasta que en 1978 decidieron grabar un maqueta que contenía los temas "Prowler", "Invasion", "Strange World" y "Iron Maiden".

Mediante un amigo que trabajaba en una emisora de radio, consiguieron que Iron Maiden sonara en la radio, lo que hizo que el grupo fuera conociéndose. Sus conciertos comenzaron a ser más numerosos y gracias a ello fueron ojeados por el promotor Rod Smallwood, quien los contactó y finalmente se hizo su mánager.

Trayectoria musical

Fichado por la discográfica EMI, Iron Maiden publicó en 1980 un recopilatorio con sus temas, titulado "Metal For Mutas". Animados por este primer trabajo en serio, no tardaron en grabar su primer álbum, "Iron Maiden". La fama de la banda aumentó y el disco llegó al puesto número 4 en las listas. Fueron invitados a acompañar a Judas Priest y a Kiss en giras por Inglaterra y toda Europa.

El segundo álbum de Iron Maiden apareció publicado en 1981 con el título de "Killers" y les valió para realizar una gira por todo el mundo. Tras esta gira, Paul Di'Anno fue despedido del grupo por sus contínuos abusos de las drogas y el alcohol, que ponían en peligro la existencia de la banda. Fue sustituído por Bruce Dickinson. Con él, en 1982 se grabó el que es considerado el mejor disco del grupo: "The Number Of The Beast", con el que se auparon en el primer puesto de las listas de Inglaterra. También realizaron una gira por medio mundo, bajo el título de "The Beast On The Road Tour".

En 1984 Iron Maiden publica "Powerslave" y realiza la gira "The world-slavery tour" que resultó ser un tremendo éxito a nivel mundial, ofreciendo más de 300 conciertos, incluído el Live in Rio de Brasil, en el que se subieron al escenario con grupos como Queen, AC/DC y Scorpions, entre otros. Sobre esta gira se grabó un documental titulado "Behind The Iron Curtain"

En 1986 aparece un nuevo álbum de Iron Maiden, titulado "Somewhere in Time". En este trabajo comienzan a aparecer teclados y sintetizadores en su producción. En 1988 publican "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", siguiendo la misma línea del anterior.

En el año 1990 Iron Maiden vuelve a sus raíces, abandonando los teclados y los sintetizadores. El resultado fue el álbum "No Prayer For The Dying". Dos años después, en 1992, publicaron "Fear Of The Dark", un nuevo número uno para la banda.

Tras sustituir al cantante Bruce Dickinson por Blaze Bayley y cambiar de productor, Iron Maiden publicaron en [[[1995]]] "The X Factor", que fue seguido por el recopilatorio "The Best of the Beast", con todas las grandes canciones de la banda desde sus comienzos hasta el momento más un tema nuevo: "Virus". "Virtual XI" es el álbum que cierra la década de los noventa, con 8 nuevos temas.

Para la nueva década regresan a la banda Bruce Dickinson y de Adrian Smith. En el año 2000 publicaron "Brave New World", primer disco de Iron Maiden con tres guitarristas, que originó una nueva gira mundial.

En 2003 aparece "Dance Of Death". La portada del álbum recibió fuertes críticas de muchos fans, hasta el extremo de ser votada como la peor de la historia del grupo. "Dance Of Death" se aleja bastante del sonido heavy de la banda.
