Nació el 17 de mayo de 1961 en Nueva Orleans, Louisiana, EE. UU como John Johnson. Fue uno de cinco hijos, con dos hermanos y dos hermanas. Uno de sus hermanos es un personaje de radio de conversación deportiva en Nueva Orleans. Se formó profesionalmente en la Central School of Speech and Drama de Londres, donde conoció a la actriz Lucy Cohu.
Carrera
Apareció como el presumido magnate de los negocios Henry van Statten en "Dalek", un episodio del renacimiento de Doctor Who en 2005.
