  • El gobierno rival de la Liga Católica, que no reconocía a Enrique III, nombró al Duque de Mayena como Lugarteniente general del Estado,lo que aceptó el 13 de marzo de 1589.
  • Tras la muerte de Enrique III hizo proclamar a Carlos de Borbón como rey,pero dado que estaba en prisión se mantuvo como Lugarteniente General.

  • La Convención Nacional depuso al rey el 21 de septiembre de 1792, y finalmente fue guillotinado el 21 de enero de 1793.

  • La comisión fue disuelta con la entrada de los aliados en París el 7 de julio de 1815. y al día siguiente Luis XVIII reasumió sus poderes.
